Security Course Details
CPP20218 Certificate II in Security Operations is the qualification you need to be a crowd controller or an unarmed security guard. The course will teach you how to guard or patrol a property. As well, you will learn what to do in licensed venues. For instance, there is screening entry, monitoring behaviour and removing persons when necessary.
Other Options
Since Certificate II in Security Operations is only an entry-level course, not all security work options are covered. But it can lead to further training in areas such as:
- cash-in-transit
- armed guard
- close personal protection (bodyguard)
- operations in control rooms
- guard dog handling
Although Certificate II in Security Operations is a nationally recognised qualification, be aware that different states have different licensing requirements. Check with your state’s security licensing authorities or contact us for details.
Eligibility & Entry Requirements for Certificate II in Security operations
You don’t need any academic qualifications to do this course, but you do need to be at least 18 years old with basic literacy and numeracy.
Most importantly, you must be eligible for a Security Providers Licence in your territory or state. You are not eligible if you have been convicted of a disqualifying offence in the last 10 years.

- Be enrolled in a principal CRICOS course
- Have a student visa that permits enrolment in a secondary short course (check with the Department of Home Affairs)

You don’t need physical fitness beyond being able to kneel and perform CPR on a manikin in the first aid unit of competency to do Certificate II in Security Operations. Work Opportunities with the Certificate II in Security Operations

How long does Certificate II in Security Operations take?
The CPP20218 Certificate II in Security Operations course is full-time for six days which is delivered via using a combination of class time including homework assessment activities after hours. Blended mode only -combination of external study and face-to-face.
Course Pre-requisites?
Persons wishing to apply for a security license need to be “fit and proper persons’ to obtain a Security licence. Persons with any criminal convictions or those that are “close associate” of criminals and those that are subject to Control Orders, Firearms Prohibition Orders or custodial offences may not be eligible for licensing.
